2023 Financial Year Key Dates

As we enter the 2022/23 financial year, it’s important to know the key dates that will impact your fiscal year. Stay on top of your responsibilities by making note of the Australian tax dates listed below. If you have any questions along the way, send us an email and we would be happy to help.

July 2022

14th – Employers must issue PAYG withholding payment summaries to employees by today. If you’re reporting via STP this information is in myGov for your employees. 

21st – Lodge and pay June business activity statement (if you lodge monthly). 

28th – Lodge and pay quarterly April – June business activity statement, if you lodge quarterly.

28th – Super guarantee contributions for Q4 (April – June) due today.

August 2022

14th – PAYG withholding payment summary annual report is due.

21st – Lodge and pay July business activity statement, if you lodge monthly. 

25th – Lodge and pay quarterly 2021-22 activity statement if you’re lodging electronically. 

28th – Lodge and pay quarterly 2021-22 superannuation guarantee charge statement. Note: super guarantee charges are not tax deductible. See here for the Australian Government’s calculator tool.

September 2022

21st – Lodge and pay August business activity statement (if you lodge monthly). 

30th – Lodge PAYG withholding payment summary annual report if prepared by business activity statement agent or tax agent. 

30th – Lodge TFN withholding report 2022 if relevant to your lodge statement.

October 2022

21st – Lodge and pay September business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

21st – Pay annual PAYG instalment notice. 

28th – Lodge and pay quarterly (July – September) business activity statement.

28th – Super guarantee contributions for quarter 1 (July – Sept) due today. 

31st – Last day to submit individual income tax returns.

31st – Final day to add new clients to your client list 2022 tax return. 

31st – Final date for lodgement of tax returns unless if you have been SAP approved or a later lodgement date has been granted.

November 2022

21st – Lodge and pay October business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

25th – Lodge and pay quarter 1, 2022-23 activity statement if you’re choosing to lodge electronically.

28th – Lodge and pay quarter 1 Superannuation guarantee charge statement if the employer did not pay enough contributions on time. 

December 2022

1st – Pay income tax for taxable medium and large taxpayers. Lodgement of return due: 15 January.*

1st – Pay income tax for the taxable head company of a consolidated group with a member deemed to be a large or medium  taxpayer in the latest year lodged. Lodgement of return due: 15 January.*

1st – Pay income tax when lodgement of tax return was due 31st October 2022. 

21st – Lodge and pay November business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

January 2023

15th – Due dates.* 

21st – Lodge and pay December business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

28th –  Super guarantee contributions for quarter 2 (Oct – Dec) are due by today.

Employers who don’t pay the minimum super contributions for quarter 2, must pay the super guarantee charge.

31st – Lodge TFN report if relevant to you.

February 2023

21st – Lodge and pay January business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

28th – Lodge and pay quarter 2 (Oct– Dec) business activity statement (if you lodge quarterly).

28th – Payment from January 2023 quarter 2, must lodge and pay their super guarantee charge.

March 2023

21st – Lodge and pay February business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

31st –  For companies and super funds where total income exceeded $2 million, lodgment is due.

April 2023

21st – Lodge and pay March business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

28th – Lodge and pay quarter 3 (Jan– March) business activity statement (if you lodge quarterly).

28th – Super guarantee contributions for quarter 3 (Jan- Mar) is due by today.

May 2023

15th – Company income tax returns due for lodgement and payment

15th  – Partnership & Trust Income tax returns due for lodgement

15th – Individual income tax returns due for lodgement if using a tax agent

21st – Lodge and pay April business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

21st – The Fringe Benefit Tax return is due by today if you lodge by paper.

28th – The Fringe Benefit Tax return is due by today if you lodge electronically.

June 2023

21st – Lodge and pay May business activity statement (if you lodge monthly).

30th – Prepare for the end of the financial year and wrap up your books for 2022/23.

July 2023

1stIndividual income tax returns due from now until 31 October if preparing and lodging yourself.

14th –  Employers must issue PAYG withholding payment summaries to employees by today. Note: if reporting via STP this information is in myGov for your employees

21st – Lodge and pay June BAS (if you lodge monthly).

28th – Lodge and pay Q4 (April – June) BAS (if you lodge quarterly).

28th – Super guarantee contributions for Q4 (April – June) are due by today.
